Case Study: We needed to dig them out of a pretty big hole!
How Oracle helped remove asbestos contaminated land from a building site.The Client:
T S G Building Services PLC is a family-run business. They started out as a small central heating installation company and are now a multi-trade business offering all services for numerous housing associations and commercial corporations and having near to 250 employees. Their turnover last year was £42 Million, impressive when they have only been going for just over 60 years! With three generations worth of experience and knowledge, it is safe to say they are the true experts!
Client Needs:
T S G Building Services PLC was awarded a project to build a tower block of flats in the London area, which for them, was no challenge. That was until they visited the land they needed to build on when alarm bells began to ring. They called Oracle Solutions straight away due to concerns of contaminated land and needed our help as they had tight deadlines to meet.
What did we did:
Once Oracle had spoken to T S G Building Services, we immediately sent out our most senior surveyor to assess the land. We found that it was contaminated with asbestos cement and asbestos insulation. With over 1,800m2 of contaminated land and having to dig near 1000mm into the ground, we realised this would not be an easy task.
We carried out a detailed desktop study and planned each day as to what we needed. Sectioning out each area, organising diggers, lorries to come on certain days, and ensuring the amount of land was removed to ensure we stick to timescales.
The result:
With our skilled team, we managed to complete the works in the timescales given and removed 11,038.48 tonnes of waste (which is equivalent to 162 elephants!). Our client was able to undertake their mammoth task of building new flats and Peter Pietrzyk, the Quantity Surveyor from T S G Building Services PLC said;
“They were so efficient and quick! No challenge seemed to phase them, I will be using Oracle Asbestos Solutions for all of my asbestos needs going forward!”
